OpenTTD Online is an unofficial browser build of OpenTTD 15.3, the open-source remake of Chris Sawyer's 1995 Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Owen Gerke of Overgrown Studio publishes it as a WebAssembly build that needs no installer. The site calls it the full OpenTTD game, and it adds buttons for moving saves, scenarios and heightmaps in and out of the browser, including through Google Drive.
How to play
- Open the play page. On the first visit it shows "Missing base graphics" while OpenTTD downloads its free OpenGFX graphics, then the page reloads by itself. If the download fails, check your connection and reload.
- Choose New Game, leave the world generation options at their defaults and click Generate, as OpenTTD's tutorial describes. The site's own tutorial then covers a town bus line and a coal train.
- Zoom with the scroll wheel or trackpad gestures, and pause while you plan. OpenTTD's wiki lists the hotkeys.
- Use the round menu button at the top left to export or import saves (
.sav), scenarios (.scn) and heightmaps (.png,.bmp), as files or through Google Drive. A Jazz Jukebox button at the bottom left opens a music player.
What you need
- A current desktop browser. The site says only "modern browsers" and lists no versions.
- Keyboard and mouse. The site documents no touch controls or gamepad support.
- No game files. The only required download is the base graphics on first run, so you need a connection the first time.
Good to know
- Saves stay in the browser's storage and are not uploaded by default, according to the privacy page. Export the ones you want to keep.
- The site says it works with BaNaNaS Online Content for AIs, graphics and scenarios. It does not mention multiplayer.
- The project started in November 2025. Later updates added Google Drive support (February 2026), multi-language support (15.2) and a Cyrillic language fix with 15.3 (June 2026).
- The project is not affiliated with or endorsed by the OpenTTD team. OpenTTD is GPL v2 software first released in 2004. Source: openttd-online repository.
