Sarien.net is a portal for classic Sierra On-Line adventure games, built by Martin Kool of Q42. He converted the games' logic to JavaScript, and the site adds a multiplayer layer on top. The site lists King's Quest: Quest for the Crown, King's Quest II and III, Police Quest, Space Quest I and II, and The Black Cauldron. King's Quest is a graphic adventure series created by Sierra and designed by Roberta Williams.
How to play
- Pick a game from the home page.
- Walk with the mouse or the keyboard. Do not hold down the cursor keys. If you get stuck, double-click to reposition yourself.
- Type commands such as
look aroundoropen the doorinto the command line. - Right-click or press
/to see actions for the current spot. More are under the "more" menu. - For scenes that need an F key, use the "press F Key" menu or Ctrl plus 1 to 0 for F1 to F10.
What you need
Nothing to install or upload. A keyboard and mouse.
Good to know
- Saving works through bookmarks. Press Ctrl+5 or type
save, and the address bar changes. That bookmark stores your location, position, inventory and game status, but not the visual state of objects. - Every location has its own URL, so you can start part-way through a game.
- You play your own game. Players in the same location can see and chat with each other, but doors and events are not shared. "Disable multiplayer" is in the "more" menu.
- The site warns of visual glitches and errors, and that a game might not be completable.
- The site says Activision authorized it to host the first episodes of Space Quest, Police Quest and King's Quest.
