Hit & Run WASM is a browser port of the PC version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run by Caleb Joseph (calebj0seph). It is compiled to WebAssembly, draws with WebGL 2 and streams the game's data from the site as it runs, so there is nothing to supply or install. The developer shared it on Hacker News on April 21, 2026; no source repository is public.
How to play
- Open the page and press Play. There are no on-page instructions.
- Game data loads in pieces while you play, so the first scenes can take a moment.
- Cutscenes play as video. If the browser blocks sound, they start muted and an unmute button appears.
- Play with a keyboard or a gamepad; Xbox and PlayStation controller layouts are supported.
- Saves and settings are kept in your browser's storage, so they stay on that device and browser.
What you need
- Browser: a recent one. The port relies on WebGL 2, AudioWorklet,
SharedArrayBufferandAtomics.waitAsync. - Input: a keyboard or a gamepad. There are no touch controls, so phones aren't supported.
- Connection: data streams as you play, so stay online.
Good to know
- An early player hit the error
Atomics.waitAsync is not a function. Browsers only added that function across the board in late 2025, so update yours if the game doesn't start. - The original was developed by Radical Entertainment and published by Vivendi Universal Games. It came out in 2003 for PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube, and later that year for Windows.
