Golden Balloon is a native source port of the 1997 Nintendo 64 kart racer Diddy Kong Racing, running entirely in the browser via WebGPU and WebAssembly. Developed by akratch using community decompilation efforts, it runs as compiled code rather than an emulator. The full game—including Adventure mode, tracks, time trials, bosses, trophy series, and up to 4-player split-screen—is playable by supplying your own ROM.
How to play
Drag and drop a supported ROM (.z64, .v64, .n64 - US 1.1 or EU 1.1) into the browser tab to start. Play using a keyboard, connected gamepads, or automatic touch controls on phones and tablets.
What you need
Files from your own copy of Diddy Kong Racing. The page asks for them before you can play.
Good to know
Saves and lap records persist automatically in browser storage. Features include adjustable supersampling, motion smoothing, and backup management tools.
