HCEMobile, also called Halo CE Mobile, is a browser version of Halo: Combat Evolved, Bungie's 2001 Xbox shooter, made to be installed as an app on phones and tablets. It is run by Trevor (BanTrev on X). It is built on halo-ce-universal, a port of the community decompilation by punpckhdq and bnunu, compiled to WebAssembly. The campaign, split screen for up to four and System Link need no account; a free account adds matchmaking with ranks from 1 to 50, Custom Games lobbies, friends, clans and chat. It includes no game data, so you load an image of your own disc.
How to play
- On iPhone or iPad, tap Share in Safari, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, choose Install app in Chrome's menu. On a computer, play in the browser.
- Under Game data, tap Choose disc image… and pick an
.isoor.xisoof your disc, or use Load from URL instead with a direct link. The maps (up to 1.8 GB) are copied into the app and nothing is uploaded. Then tap Play. - For online play, create an account under Play online, then open Multiplayer in the game.
- Keyboard and mouse: WASD to move, mouse to aim, left click to fire, Space to jump, Esc to pause.
What you need
- Browser: iOS 17 or later on iPhone and iPad, Chrome on Android, or a current Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox on a computer, with about 2 GB of free memory.
- Input: editable touch layouts, including an Original Xbox controller layout; Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro, MFi or Backbone controllers; or keyboard and mouse.
- Files: a verified Xbox disc image of Halo: Combat Evolved from your own copy; the guide says any version works, including a multiplayer disc.
Good to know
- The web port started on GitHub Pages on September 29, 2026 and moved to HCEMobile.com on October 6, 2026. Saves exported from the old address can be restored here.
- Remote co-op streams player 2's view from the host to a friend's device, so the friend needs no game data.
- halo-ce-universal is now called OpenCE. Combat Lab, also listed here, comes from the same decompilation; HCEMobile adds the phone app, touch controls and account-based matchmaking.
- The site, in English and Spanish, calls itself an unofficial fan project, not endorsed by or affiliated with Microsoft.
