Quake-SRP is id Software's 1996 Quake ported to Rust from the WinQuake C source by terrapapagalli1516. It runs in the browser as a WebAssembly program with the original 8-bit software renderer, and WebGL 2 only puts the finished frame on screen. The page includes id's shareware episode, and the full game and mission packs play from your own files. SRP stands for "slop rust port", the author's own name for it.
How to play
- Click the page to capture the mouse. Move with WASD, look with the mouse, jump with Space, fire with a click and pick weapons with 1 to 8.
- Esc opens the menu, the tilde key opens the console, and F6 and F9 quicksave and quickload.
- By default it runs at native resolution with no frame rate cap and a wider view on wide screens; the console command
preset classicswitches to id's original engine behavior. - A gamepad or a touch screen also works; a phone has to be held sideways.
What you need
- Nothing for the shareware episode.
- If you own Quake, add
id1/pak1.pakfrom your copy for episodes 2 to 4, a mission pack'spak0.pak, or CD music tracks such astrack02.oggby choosing or dropping them on the page. They stay in your browser. - A browser with shared memory and worker threads. The README reports testing in Chromium and Firefox on Linux, Chrome on macOS and Chrome on Android; Safari and iOS are untested.
Good to know
- Single-player only; there is no multiplayer.
- The README says Claude wrote the code under the author's direction, and that the classic mode is checked against id's own C code.
- The page can be installed as an app and works offline. Source: GitHub.
