ut.pieter.com is a browser version of Urban Terror, the free tactical shooter by FrozenSand, run by Pieter Levels as an unofficial, non-commercial web preservation. It runs the ioquake3 engine compiled to WebAssembly with Urban Terror 4.3's game data. You type a player name and join the site's live server, where bots play alongside people. The start page shows who is online, the current map, top players for 24 hours, 7 days and all time, and a countdown to a daily match.
How to play
- Enter a player name and press Play. The first load downloads about 1.5 GB of game data, cached for later visits.
- Click the screen to capture the mouse; Esc releases it. Alt+Enter toggles fullscreen.
- On touch screens, the left stick moves, you drag anywhere to look, and the shoot and jump buttons sit at the bottom right. Scores and chat buttons sit at the top left. Upright and sideways both work.
- With a gamepad, the left stick moves and the right stick looks. The right trigger fires, A or the left trigger jumps, B crouches, X reloads, the bumpers switch weapons, the D-pad picks weapons 1 to 4, Y shows scores and Start opens the menu.
- The daily match starts at 8 PM UTC, and the start page can send browser notifications.
What you need
- A browser with WebAssembly, WebGL and IndexedDB storage. The site recommends Chrome on a desktop.
- A keyboard and mouse, a touch screen, or a gamepad.
- Files: none.
Good to know
- The game data is Urban Terror 4.3's own
zUrT43packages. Maps include Casa, Turnpike, Abbey and Uptown, plus four maps Pieter Levels added in October 2026: Ericeira, Lisbon, Bali and Amsterdam. - Settings and loadout persist in the browser, and the page reloads itself once if the server moves to a map it lacks.
- Pieter Levels launched the site on October 2, 2026. He wrote that an earlier attempt failed until a mismatch between ioquake3 and Urban Terror's game code was fixed.
- The site says it is not affiliated with FrozenSand or id Software and asks players to support the original at urbanterror.info.
- Urban Terror began as a Quake III Arena mod in 2000 and became a free standalone game in 2007. Version 4.3.4 came out on June 21, 2018.
