Glider 4.0 Unofficial Web Edition is a browser port of John Calhoun's 1991 Macintosh game Glider 4.0, in which you fly a paper glider through the rooms of a house. dbohdan ported the released THINK Pascal source to TypeScript and reimplemented enough of the Macintosh Toolbox to run it, so it is a source port rather than an emulator. It includes the houses, art and sounds from the Glider 4.05 release, plus the Room Editor for building your own houses.
How to play
- Fly with the left and right arrow keys, use the down arrow for a battery boost and the up arrow to fire a rubber band. Tab pauses.
- On a phone or tablet the game starts with on-screen buttons; menus work by tapping and holding a menu title, then dragging to an item.
- Gamepad and Virtual Gamepad modes are under Options, then Controls.
- Quit the game to reach the desktop, where the Room Editor lives.
What you need
- Nothing: no Mac ROM or system software. Saved games, houses and preferences stay in your browser's storage, and the desktop's File menu imports and exports them.
Good to know
- It starts in a mode that imitates a 16-color Mac II. Options switch to a black-and-white Mac Plus or Mac II, or to the look of Glider for Windows, and add screen filters.
- The port keeps most of the original's bugs so that it plays the same way.
- The README says the port was directed by a person and written by Claude Opus 5.5, and tested against the original running in an emulator. Source: GitHub.
